Go and follow @rxspace Help them get to 2,000 followers! The Pleiades is an open star cluster located in the constellation of Taurus at a distance of 444 light years. Often called the Seven Sisters, the Pleiades are among the most well known star clusters in the night sky and are best seen in the winter skies of the northern hemisphere. The Pleiades is home to massive young blue stars that belong to spectral class B. The Pleiades is also one of the closest open star clusters to Earth and can be seen with the naked eye. Astronomers estimate that the cluster formed within the past 100 million years and will continue to exist for another 250 million years. Eventually, the stars within the Pleiades will disperse and the cluster will cease to exist. The Pleiades also happens to be my favourite star cluster.
